IU Center on Representative Government: Differentiating Civics Education for All Learners

Maintaining a vital democracy is the work of all of us and needs to reach every student. This session will help teachers identify ways they can integrate civics into their classrooms organically and regularly. Richard Cairn from Emerging America and an expert in access to academic content by students with disabilities, will offer suggestions on how to provide modifications for differentiated learning using the free civics interactive called Engaging Congress. Attendees will participate in analysis of primary source materials, take a tour through the supporting website to learn where to find correlations to state standards and C3 Framework, links to primary sources, content videos and become able to play the game on their own phones or other devices. The session will close with a discussion with Rich Cairn on modifying content to meet the needs of all learners.
