And now, another Fact of Congress

Every year, Congress must consider and debate hundreds of very important matters.

Imagine what it would look and sound like if the entire Congress discussed each and every topic before it?

(Chuckle) Well, thankfully, members of both the House and Senate belong to individual committees that focus on a particular subject, like education or the environment.

When a member introduces a bill that he or she would like to see become a law, it is immediately sent to a committee where it is studied in detail.

Committee members hear experts talk about why this particular bill is…or isn’t a good idea. They pass their findings on to the rest of Congress.

So when you think of where much of the work really gets done in Congress, think Committees!

And that’s another Fact of Congress
