Clifford S. Gibbons
Clifford S. Gibbons is president of Gibbons & Company, Inc. Founded in 1990, the company specializes in providing selected clients in highly competitive businesses with strategic counsel and a broad range of federal and international government relations services.
Mr. Gibbons has over twenty-five years of Washington experience developing high level bipartisan political support for policies to help major global companies gain competitive market advantages. He has also provided counsel to foreign governments on international trade policy matters and represented one of the country's largest university systems in obtaining significant new federally funded research and development programs. Mr. Gibbons has the demonstrated ability to work effectively at the highest levels of government with both major political parties and the management of multinational corporations and organizations to obtain substantial economic benefits for clients often under intense opposition, pressure and time sensitive deadlines. He is recognized for his thorough preparation, negotiation skills and commitment to obtaining successful results for his clients.
A native of Tampa, Florida, Mr. Gibbons is a graduate of the University of South Florida and Florida State University where he received his law degree in 1976. He began his professional career as a trial attorney prosecuting felony, misdemeanor and juvenile criminal cases in Tampa, Florida. In 1979 he moved to Washington and served as Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the United States Trade Representative at the White House. While serving in that position, Mr. Gibbons wrote a book entitled A Preface To Trade.
After leaving the White House, Mr. Gibbons served for two years as Counsel to the Grocery Manufacturers of America, Inc., the leading trade association of more than 120 multinational food and consumer products companies. For eight years thereafter, Mr. Gibbons expanded his government relations experience and diversified his client base at Washington's largest law firm, Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P., where he headed the government and public policy division. In 1990, Mr. Gibbons formed Gibbons & Company, Inc. which he currently serves as president.
Mr. Gibbons resides in McLean, Virginia with his wife Terri and their two sons. Mr. Gibbons' recreational activities include golf, tennis and skiing. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Blue Ridge School in St. George, Virginia.
